Controls – Ways of making the activity safer by removing or reducing the risk from it.
For example - you might use a different piece of equipment or you might change the way the activity is carried out.
Keep checking throughout the activity in case you need to change it…or even stop it! This is a great place to add comments which will be used as part of the review.
Falling from windows – Risk of falling from first floor open windows. All present Safety catches to remain installed on all upstairs windows so the windows can only be opened leaving a safe gap.   
Blocked drainpipes & gutters – risk of slippery group, worse if frozen All present Regular inspection and cleaning out. 
Access – Damage, loss of facilities All present Security lighting, secure perimeter fencing, CCTV, regular checks. 
Bridge – Slippery when wet, rotting spindles, deck boards and hand rails All present Regular inspection and cleaning. 
Gas Tank/Supply – Explosion, Fire, asphyxiation. All present Use HSE approved gas fitter (Gas Safe registered) for work on fittings and appliances.

Good preventative maintenance.

All present Regular inspection and cleaning of facilities. Good supply of toilet paper, soap, towels / hand drying facilities.

Check and run hot water systems. De-scale and disinfect showerheads. Periodic check by a competent person. Also see separate legionella risk assessment and management document.
Cleaning Materials –

Fumes, Chemical burns
All present See separate COSHH risk assessment, which applies to all chemicals on the premises. Train users. Read labels carefully.

Have secure storage for all chemicals.

Avoid mixing cleaning materials.
Chairs & tables –

Stacks of chairs and tables falling over
All present Chairs to be stacked no higher than 7 chairs high along the north facing wall.

Tables to be stored in designated areas.

Signs for lodge users reminding them on safe chair & table storage.
Games & activities All present All indoor activities to be risk assessed by the lodge user or leader-in-charge.
Falling from bunk All present Ensure that all beds have a guard-rail fitted to avoid accidental roll from the bed.

All top bunks have a ladder securely fitted for access.

Beds checks by campsite crew regularly during cleaning.

Group Leaders to ensure young people are not behaving in a way that can cause danger.
Fire – smoke inhalation, burns possible death. All present Yearly PAT testing of electrical equipment.

Fire extinguishers provided throughout the building.

Fire doors fitted where appropriate to prevent the spread of fire.

Annual gas safety checks carried out.

All visitors to ensure that exits and passageways are kept clear at all times and any doors without a push bar fitted are left unlocked while building is occupied.
