Set up of bows and equipment

Only instructors who have a Scout archery permit and have had a Phoenix induction are permitted to set up the activity. This is controlled by been listed on the SLAM archery instructor list held within OSM.

Environment. Trips and falls.

Trees have been regularly checked and trimmed but dead branches and debris may periodically fall into the archery area particularly after high winds. Check the area on arrival for trip hazards. Shooting lines are highlighted.

Archery area is netted on three sides and these should be checked to make sure they are in place and in a good state of repair before using activity.

Equipment failure

Online equipment log in use for usage times and checking for damage. Damaged equipment to be removed from general use for repair. All equipment is safety approved.

Over ambitious behaviour

Controlled by instructor and at least one other adult.

Observers and non-participants on site

Archery zone is netted on three sides. An over-shoot area beyond the netting from the toilet block to the main marquee is marked out of bounds with signs and hi viz rope provided when in use. The blue fence should be in place along the back of the bottom marquee to provide a second out of bounds area. The path behind the top marquee should have a barrier in place to prevent access into overshoot area. Observers attracted to the area to be controlled by leaders outside the archery zone.
