For example - you might use a different piece of equipment or you might change the way the activity is carried out.
The net risk rating is a combination of the likelihood of the risk happening and the impact once the mitigating actions have been taken.
These are further actions which have either been identified or are in the process of being implemented to provide additional control to mitigate risks

Minimum of two qualified instructors per target boss. Signs along queuing area stating safety rules. Participants to be briefed when in the waiting area. Equipment to be stored in the designated locked vehicle/box when not in use.

Range safety officer to oversee all shooting points. "Safe to collect" command to only be given when all participants have left the shooting line and all crossbows are returned to their stands. No bolts to be left on the shooting line. Only instructors/range volunteers to collect bolts from the range. Range safety officer to stay by the shooting line and not allow new participants to enter until the range is clear. Persons collecting bolts to have closed toed shoes.

Sides of the range and overshoot area is fenced and will be clearly signed as no entry. All other entrances along the range to be taped/fenced across and clearly signed. All instructors and range safety officer to understand proper use of the stop command. The stop command must be used if anyone moves past the shooting line (including entering the overshoot area) unless the safe to collect command has been given. Participants to be briefed on what to do if the stop command is given (Crossbows put down and hand up if the bow is span or loaded) prior to moving to the shooting line. Range safety officer to check the range and overshoot boundary before commencing the session.

Instructors to ensure that equipment is kept pointing down range towards the targets at all times. Waiting area to be away from the shooting line to avoid distraction from waiting participants. Minimum of one qualified instructor to two participants. Novice participants to be asked to shoot one bolt with one to one supervision with an instructor first. Participants briefed before approaching the shooting line and signs outlining safety rules along the queuing area.

All equipment to be inspected by qualified instructors before use. Any faulty or broken equipment to be reported to the range safety officer, removed from use and de-strung. If the equipment cannot be repaired it must be taped and stored in the designated locked vehicle/box. Lubricant to be applied to rails after bolts are collected. Equipment to be stored in the designated locked vehicle/box when not in use.

Participants to be briefed on keeping hands/fingers under the safety guard on the crossbow support grip. Instructors to emphasise this when participants are on the shooting line.

Participants to be briefed on correct technique. Instructors/volunteers to assist participants who are unable to span the crossbows. Instructors to carry a spanning aid to use when necessary. All participants to be asked if they have any back/shoulder problems/injuries during the briefing and instructors to be informed so that adjustment can be made or assistance given.
