Hazards arising from the actions of the Instructor

Tomahawk instructors must pass in-house training and assessment by a peer. They should partake in the activity regularly.
Catapult instructors should be familiar with the equipment and hold have taken part in any of the recognised training above. |

Injuries from poor technique or inability | Activity - Tomahawk Throwing | Young People | Ensure correct throwing technique, keeping elbow pointing at the target, and keeping the wrist straight. When gathering ensure you remove from the target first then collect from the ground. Carry hawks blade in hand edge facing forward Age or size is not an indicator of the strength required to use the equipment safely. Use the weighted test handles and adjust the activity where possible.

Injury from projectiles and ricochets | Activity - Target | Young People | Ensure instructions are given that people must not cross the firing line until instructed by the adult in charge. No person should deliberately try to hit another with any projectile. Use a suitable trap mechanism behind targets to reduce ricochets and catch misses. Goggles to be worn to prevent damage to eyes when using pellets, or ball bearings.

Equipment failure
