Controls – Ways of making the activity safer by removing or reducing the risk from it.
For example - you might use a different piece of equipment or you might change the way the activity is carried out.

Equipment failure – risk of cuts, bruises, grazes, contusions, and concussion. All PresentAll equipment is inspected and logged regularly.
Exposure / hypothermia & sunburn – risk of sunburnt skin, heat exhaustion, dehydration All PresentInstructors and participants must have suitable clothing for the weather and activity.

Both instructors and participants to drink plenty of water.

Instructor is to stop the session if participant behaviour becomes dangerous.
Unauthorised access – people wandering on to the range unaware of it could result in standing on a live range. All PresentThe range to be situated within the site that does not either permit people to stray on to the range or clearly set out with obvious signs/fencing/barriers to warn people.

The range is constructed in an appropriate area for the nature of the activity.
Human error – instructor complacency and loss of concentration could result in putting everyone at risk. All PresentAll instructors are trained by an appropriately experienced or qualified person.

Instructors are encouraged to work with another instructor to ensure best practices are adhered to.

All instructors are aware of where risk assessments and operating procedures are stored.
Misuse of Tomahawks – cuts, bruises, grazes and contusions. All PresentTomahawks are not taken out of the dedicate range.

The participants do not have access to the Tomahawks when they are not being supervised.

Participants only allowed in the range when it is their turn to throw.

Instructor to stay vigilant as group collects Tomahawks from bosses.

Participants notified that Tomahawks could bounce back warned to move out the way if it happens.
