Site users to respect fences and crossings in place and to give way to road users where able. Site maintenance traffic minimised and extra caution taken when site is in use.

Gloves should be worn and care taken not to strain. Wood piles should not be walked on, create multiple smaller piles to avoid the need for this.

Regular reviews with tree surgeon and ongoing plan for pollarding and removal of problem trees. Woods out of bounds during high winds, site to be closed in the event of severe weather warning. No trees are to be considered safe for climbing or supporting items such as swings.

Annual testing of water supply to confirm quality. Regular maintenance of water system filtration. Drinking water supply available in Fort Knox (old generator house behind Linhay). Grey water available from collected rain from Hughes guttering (classrooms). Areas labelled and access available from wardens number.

Ask all not to climb on or sit on site fencing. Report any damage to the site warden, repair to be undertaken as soon as practical.

Dedicated, secure area for gas bottles with restricted access. All bottles are labelled with the owner and checked for obvious signs of damage. Permanent gas installation area is maintained with reccomended perimeter. Fixed gas appliances such as boiler are serviced regularly.

Injury from contact with or ingestion of chemicals.

Chemicals used un site maintenance to be on the central COSHH register and stored in the secure cupboard. Cleaning materials that are accessible to campers to be kept locked with their own supply of datasheets. Chemicals only to be used for intended purpose and effort made to reduce cross-contamination. If chemical sto be used in general areas, such as weed killer, restrict access to area as per manufacturer guidelines.

Water borne hazards (Legionella, E Coli, Cryptosporidium etc) SiteAll PresentAny showers in campsites should be run at their hottest setting for one minute after any prolonged period of non-use. Shower heads should be removed and disinfected quarterly. This helps to kill any possible legionella in the shower head.

An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is available on site for use in the event of a cardiac emergency. Leaders and adults are briefed on its location and basic operation at the start of camp. Only trained individuals should operate the AED where possible, following emergency procedures and contacting emergency services immediately


Altar fires and stands

Altar fires are to be used only in designated areas and must be supervised by an adult leader at all times. Fires should be built within approved altar fire structures, clear of overhanging branches or trip hazards. A fire bucket or extinguisher must be available nearby, and fires must be fully extinguished before being left unattended. Scouts are to be briefed on fire safety, safe distances, and the prohibition of accelerants or rough behaviour near the fire. Check barrel fits on stand and that both are stable

Injury from using the Barn areaSiteAll PresentThe barn has a rough, uneven floor surface and stored stacks of tables and chairs. Care should be taken when moving through the area to avoid trips or slips, and stacked furniture must not be climbed on or moved without adult supervision. Access should be restricted when loading or rearranging furniture to minimise injury risk. Games should allow adequate start stop distance.

Injury through use of classrooms

The classroom contains fire exits that must be kept clear at all times, and is equipped with water and electrical items requiring cautious use and supervision. Doors have no closers or finger protectors, creating a potential pinch hazard, so extra care and instruction for safe use is necessary. Regular checks will ensure fire safety and electrical equipment safety procedures are maintained, with adult supervision to mitigate risks from the uneven control features

Uneven ground, such as molehills or animal burrows, may cause trips or twisted ankles. Leaders and visitors should remain alert to these hazards, especially on grassed areas. If holes are found, they should be safely filled using earth from the site fringes to reduce risk of injury.

Injury from flash flooding

No sleeping in the Rendle hut, unit is located on a flood plainand has experienced flash flooding due to blocked Culvert on highway. Top culvert should be checked periodically.
