Hazard – something that may cause harm or damage. Risk – the chance of it happening.	Category to help organise risks	Young people, Leaders, Visitors?	Controls – Ways of making the activity safer by removing or reducing the risk from it. For example - you might use a different piece of equipment or you might change the way the activity is carried out.	Keep checking throughout the activity in case you need to change it…or even stop it! This is a great place to add comments which will be used as part of the review.
Behaviour: overexcitement	Creative Zone	All Present	Pre-activity briefing will advise participants of the expectations for behaviour during the activity. Any participant unable to follow this, will have a discussion with the Leader in charge of safety who will decide if they are safe to continue. The Big Birthday Adventure code of conduct will be followed at all times. Expectations and rules for each part of the activity will be clearly explained by volunteers in charge of groups prior to any transition.
Paper Cuts	Creative Zone	All	Leader in charge will provide safety briefing prior to start of activity. Young people will be reminded to handle card carefully and not to grab card from others hands. Should a papercut occur, a leader with First Response will assess and determine whether a plaster is required. Should this be required, young person will be accompanied to first aid. Any card which is contaminated with blood product will be disposed off immediately. Any blood will be cleaned off surfaces with antibacterial surface wipes.
Sharp Injuries (due to sharp pencils)	Creative Zone	All	Leader in charge will provide safety briefing prior to start of activity. Participants will be reminded that pencils are sharp and should only be used for colouring on the paper provided. Any participant found to be poking themselves or others with the pencils will speak to Leader in Charge who will determine if it is safe for them to continue the activity. Activity will be supervised by group leaders who will monitor behaviour. Sharpeners will be available to re-sharpen pencils as necessary. Adults/YL will sharpen pencils - directly into small pot or bin.
