Spinning PlatesCreative ZoneAll PresentLightweight plastic plates used. Pre-activity briefing to instruct on safe use - eye level and below. Activity leader to supervise to ensure safe use. Participants reminded to space out (areas marked off) to avoid collisions.
Juggling BallsCreative ZoneAll PresentSoft beanbag balls used. Juggling area marked off and floor area visually inspected and cleared prior to activity. Safe use instructions given at pre-activity briefing. Participants reminded to replace balls in their container after use.
StiltsCreative ZoneAll PresentPre-activity briefing on safe use. Use on flat even surface, provide spotters/helpers, height limited to beginner stilts. Maximum 1-2 participants on stilts at a time to ensure appropriate supervision by activity leaders. Ankle injury due to falling off stilts - Leader in charge of safety to provide First Response and refer to medical team if required.
Hula HoopsCreative ZoneAll PresentArea for use clearly marked. Pre-activity briefing to instruct on safe use. Unused hoops to be stored away from practice areas.
General OvercrowdingCreative ZoneAll PresentActivity limited to 18 participants, divided into smaller groups to try each activity. Activity leaders to monitor each activity and create queuing system if necessary - encourage to try less busy activity. Cones to mark activity zones.
General - Untidy AreasCreative ZoneAll PresentTables covered with plastic sheeting (to be secured to table to reduce trip hazard). Young people to wear aprons/lab coats in science area. Young people reminded at pre-activity briefing to ensure they keep their area tidy and clean up any spillages or dropped equipment immediately. Activity leaders to visually inspect area pre-session to ensure free movement and no trip hazards.
Behaviour: overexcitementCreative ZoneAll PresentPre-activity briefing will advise participants of the expectations for behaviour during the activity. Any participant unable to follow this, will have a discussion with the Leader in charge of safety who will decide if they are safe to continue. The Big Birthday Adventure code of conduct will be followed at all times. Expectations and rules for each part of the activity will be clearly explained by volunteers in charge of groups prior to any transition.
